Remix Comix

Comics for Heritage

The art collective from Novi Sad Serbia MMC LED ART (Multimedia Center ICE ART) Shock Cooperative as a lead partner in collaboration with Foundation “Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture”, and partners Komunikart (Serbia), Forum Ljubljana, Institute for Art and Cultural Production (Slovenia), LUSTR festival (Chech Republic) and ZID Theater (The Netherlands) are implementing the project Remix Comix supported by the Creative Europe.

Remix Comix is a project aiming to create a new and diverse transnational contemporary comics scene for artists, writers, scholars, activists and poets from Czechia, the Netherlands, Serbia, and Slovenia. The Remix Comix team believes that comics can and should contribute to inclusive European heritages, in all different domains: art, education, public life, and of course in the museum.

How can we visualize different perspectives on shared European heritages? And what narratives should be told, and what narratives should be altered? What is the future of comics, in the world of arts, and in society as a whole? How can cartoonists and comic artists engage in an inclusive dialogue with cultural entrepreneurs, educators and activists?

Remix Comix is first and foremost a platform in the making, an artistic hub in which artists can meet and exchange ideas and images. Eventually, the work of Remix Comix will result in two interdisciplinary conferences, artist-in-residence programs in five cities (Amsterdam, Ljubljana, Novi Sad, Pancevo, and Prague), and – obviously – a series of comics that shine new and different light on European heritages.

Remix Comix invites first and foremost artists, but also cultural entrepreneurs, social activists, museums, and communities to engage in this project. The first, opening event of Remix Comix will be an interdisciplinary conference on Comics in Heritage and Contemporary art and will take place on 28-30 October 2022 in Novi Sad, Serbia. The conference is part of the programme for Novi Sad, Cultural Capital of Europe (2022).
